Labor Day has been celebrated in the United States and Canada since 1894. Originally, Labor Day was a day set aside to celebrate the achievements of American workers in the late 19th century. Grover Cleveland, our 22nd and 24th president, designated the first Monday in September as a national holiday. This "workingmen's holiday" differs from most other national holidays because it is not tied to a particular wartime conflict (or resolution), person, or other historical event.

"In the late 1800s, at the height of the Industrial Revolution in the United States, the average American worked 12-hour days and seven-day weeks in order to eke out a basic living."

"People of all ages, particularly the very poor and recent immigrants, often faced extremely unsafe working conditions, with insufficient access to fresh air, sanitary facilities and breaks."

In modern times, Labor Day is a day off at the start of the week families enjoy just after the start of school (or before depending on your area). Celebrating this late summer holiday usually includes a hearty meal, barbeque is a favorite in the West Texas area.

Here's How the Program Worked: Customers received a $10 gift card good at Sonic Drive-In or Starbucks and an entry for our grand prize with each new paid referral. In addition, every $10 spent by referrals added another entry into the drawing. An order totaling twenty dollars earned the referee two entries into the iPad drawing. The more new customers referred, the more entries earned in the iPad prize drawing!
